Quilters Quest opened its doors in January 2004, mainly because Yvonne, the owner, had a desire to have a Longarm quilting machine but had nowhere to put it at home. Initially she intended to have a small selection of fabric and concentrate mainly on providing a few classes and a Longarm quilting service. Over the years this has developed into a LOT of fabric, more weekly classes and workshops, and a very busy Longarm quilting schedule! Clare, Yvonne’s daughter, came onboard in 2011; she is mainly kept busy with the website and the administrative side of running of the shop, however, she does teach a weekly class and the beginners’ workshops at Quilters Quest.

Yvonne started patchwork over 20 years ago and since then it has developed into a passion. She has attended patchwork classes delivered by various teachers, including teachers from Ireland, the UK and the USA. These have allowed her to build up a wide range of techniques which she employs in her weekly classes. Clare made her first quilt over 15 years ago and her love of all things patchwork has developed ever since.

Whilst loving to make quilt tops, Yvonne neither had the time nor the inclination to do the quilting process; hence she invested in a hand-guided Longarm quilting machine. This has since been upgraded to the Statler computerised Gammill Longarm quilting machine, imported from the USA, which has seen her output increase significantly. Yvonne enjoys doing all types of quilting on the Longarm machine from computerised edge to edge, to the more challenging work of custom quilting and also free hand.

Yvonne also designs quilt patterns and has a particular fondness for patchwork bags. You can usually find at least one bag workshop per term at Quilters Quest. She has had a bag pattern using shrink fabric published in British Patchwork & Quilting Magazine.

Quilters Quest joined the SewEzi family at the end of 2013. Clare’s favourite feature of the SewEzi table is the flat sewing bed that it creates, allowing her to sew more at a time, and the extra support it gives to heavier projects that need to be quilted. Yvonne loves every aspect of the table, so much so that it is a permanent piece of furniture in her living room at home!
